Game Review: Kings vs Raptors

Review Written by Adam Garfield (@AdamThe6God)

Toronto came out firing, hitting 4 threes in the first four minutes of the game. The Raptors had difficulty defending Sacramento's Garrett Temple, who put up 10 points in the quarter. With about three minutes left, DeMar DeRozan nailed a turnaround jumper in the face of Bogdan Bogdanovic to bring Toronto's lead to 3 points. Norman Powell blocked a shot from Kings' Buddy Hield to end the 1st quarter. Toronto led 35-30.

The Raptors had the slight edge throughout the 2nd quarter, but went back and forth with the Kings the entire time. Toronto again had trouble guarding a Kings player, this time being Bogdan Bogdanovic. Bogdanovic scored 10 points on the Raptors in the quarter. The 1st half had one of the wildest endings in this NBA season. DeRozan made a pull-up jumper with about 1.5 seconds on the clock. Former Raptors legend Vince Carter inbounded the ball to George Hill, who sunk a half court buzzer beater to end the half. The Kings led 63-61.

Jonas Valanciunas dominated the boards in the 3rd, grabbing 8 rebounds. DeRozan quietly put up 5 points in the quarter. Similar to the 2nd quarter, the 3rd quarter was even more of a back and forth battle. After another 12 minutes of play, Toronto regained the lead, 83-77.

Toronto grew their lead and sealed the game by forcing Sacramento to miss a total of 7 three pointers in the quarter. With about seven or eight minutes left in the final twelve to play, Raptors' guard Fred VanVleet drove into the paint and converted on a contested layup. With 11 seconds left in the game, the crowd at the Air Canada Centre gave Vince Carter a standing ovation for what could possibly be his last game played in Toronto. Toronto defeated the Kings 108-83.
