Game Review: Raptors at Hornets

Review Written by Adam Garfield  (@AdamThe6God)

Kyle Lowry got the game started off on a good note, scoring 8 points in the 1st quarter. Halfway through the quarter, DeMar DeRozan found Serge Ibaka for an alley-oop dunk, which picked up the Raptors tempo. Other than this assist, DeRozan had a relatively sloppy quarter in which he committed 3 turnovers. After a back and forth battle for the lead, Charlotte led the Raptors 26-22.

Toronto's Pascal Siakam went 4/4 from the free throw line in the beginning of the 2nd quarter, which cut Charlotte's lead to 1. With about three minutes left in the 1st half, DeRozan made a behind the back pass to Ibaka, who threw down a massive slam dunk for the assist. Toronto made 6 three pointers in the quarter, which is one of their best shootings quarters this year. DeMar put up 7 points in the period, which helped the Raptors gain the lead. The 1st half ended with Toronto leading the Hornets 63-47.

Midway through the quarter, Charlotte's Dwight Howard finished an alley-oop dunk from an inbound pass from Nicolas Batum. This amazing play got the crowd hyped up, but it wasn't enough to get the Hornets players back into the game. DeMar had a monster quarter where he scored 18 points, while Serge added 7 of his own points to the mix. These two were the main reason Toronto had a 20 point lead to end the quarter. The Raptors led the Hornets 99-79 heading into the final 12 minutes of play.

The 4th quarter was essentially development time for Toronto as they played all of their young players. Pascal Siakam was responsible for 6 points in the quarter, while Delon Wright added 9. Charlotte's Malik Monk and Johnny O'Bryant combined for 16 points, but it was not enough to bring their team back in the game. Toronto defeated Charlotte 129-111.
