Game Review: Hawks vs Raptors

Review Written by Adam Garfield (@AdamThe6God)

Jonas Valanciunas led the Raptors in the 1st quarter with 9 points and brought the crowd to life by knocking down a three-pointer. The Raptors weren't able to pull away with a big lead due to Dennis Schröder's 6 points. At the very end of the 1st, Pascal Siakam denied Hawks' rookie John Collins on a layup attempt, which elecetrified Toronto's bench. Toronto led 30-22 at the end of the quarter.

DeMar DeRozan put up 8 points in the quarter, but what really boosted the Raptors lead was their defense. Toronto had 5 steals and blocked 4 shots, which led to production on offense. Toronto outscored Atlanta by 7 points in the quarter, which gave the Raptors a 15 point lead going into halftime. The score at the end of the 1st half was 62-47 in favor of Toronto.

Toronto could not stop Atlanta's Taurean Prince, who was able to score 12 points. Prince was also dominant on the boards, grabbing 4 defensive rebounds. DeMar DeRozan made 2 three-pointers in the quarter, which is an area of his game that he has recently improved. Hawks' guard Dennis Schröder picked apart Toronto's defense by racking up 4 assists in the quarter. Heading into the final quarter of play, Toronto led 88-69.

Taurean Prince was again dominant for the Hawks, but his 7 points in the quarter weren't enough to bring his back from the large deficit that Toronto had. Norman Powell crushed Atlanta's comeback hopes as he made a shot after getting fouled by Kent Bazemore. The game ended on a OG Anunoby steal off of the Hawks' Isaiah Taylor. OG dunked the ball off of the steal, and ended the game. The final score was Toronto 111-98, as they defeated the Atlanta Hawks. Toronto has the best home record in the NBA of 13-1. Taurean Prince was the game's leasing scorer with 30 points.
