Game Review: Raptors vs Spurs

Review Written by Adam Garfield (@AdamThe6God)

The Raptors and the Spurs both played excellent interior defense that led to a low scoring 1st quarter. Pau Gasol led the Spurs with 8 points, while Kyle Lowry had 6 points for Toronto. Jonas Valanciunas knocked down a three-pointer at the beginning of the game, which is starting to become a normal shot for him. He has been developing his shooting from behind the arc and it paid off. DeMar DeRozan had 4 points and 3 assists in the period. Toronto trailed the Spurs 17-18 going into the 2nd quarter.

The Raptors outscored the Spurs by 8 points in the quarter led by the scoring of Delon Wright and Lowry. Toronto turned the ball over 4 times, but their defense bailed them out as they did excellent at stopping the fast breaks. With about 4 seconds left in the half, DeRozan went the full length of the court and dropped in a floater as time expired. Toronto led 44-37 heading into halftime.

Toronto scored 19 points in the 3rd quarter, 17 of which came from either Lowry, DeRozan, and Valanciunas. The only other Raptor to score was C.J. Miles on a fast break dunk after a steal. LaMarcus Aldridge was a beast for the San Antonio, dropping 12 points. Toronto led the Spurs 63-60 heading into the final quarter.

Lowry and DeRozan closed out the game as the usually do, combining for 17 points. Lowry dropped 9 points, while DeRozan had 8 points. With around 6 seconds left, San Antonio's Bryn Forbes hit a three-pointer to bring the game within 3 points. DeRozan was sent to the free throw line after getting fouled and he surprisingly missed both of his shots. The Spurs got the final possession of the game, but they weren't able to make their final shot. The Raptors defeated the Spurs 86-83.
