Game Review: Raptors vs Wizards (Round 1 - Game 5)

Review Written by Adam Garfield (@AdamThe6God)

DeMar DeRozan was straight fire to begin the game for the Raptors. He dropped 13 points and 2 assists. Washington's John Wall combated DeRozan's 13 by scoring 9 points of his own. Wall ended the 1st quarter with a buzzer beater as he knocked down a mid-range jumper over Pascal Siakam. The Raptors trailed 23-24.

The Raptors' guards led the way for Toronto in the 2nd quarter of the game, specifically Delon Wright and DeRozan. The two combined for a total of 14 points in the period, which was more than half of the points the Raptors scored in the quarter. The Wizards turned the ball over 4 times compared to Toronto's 3 turnovers. The Raptors were ahead 48-47 heading into the break.

The All-Star back-court for Toronto did what they have done all year in the 3rd quarter: dominate. Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan messed around and dropped a total of 19 points. The two also combined for 6 assists. The other All-Star back-court for Washington, Wall and Beal, went for a total of 18 points. After a back and forth battle in the 3rd, Toronto remained up by 1 point, the score set at 79-78.

In a one point ball game, the win was for grabs by both teams. With 8:52 on the clock, Washington's Kelly Oubre Jr. threw down a huge dunk over Pascla Siakam. Oubre hyped up the Wizards and tried to spark a lead. Then at the 6:48 mark, DeRozan glided in from nearly the free throw line all the way in for a slam dunk. This dunk came off of a Jonas Valanciunas steal and a Delon Wright assist. Wright had a huge 4th quarter, recording 9 points and 3 rebounds, as well as providing a much needed energy booster for Toronto. The Wizards turned the ball over 5 times in the period and Jonas Valanciunas had 6 huge rebounds that helped close out the game. The Raptors defeated the Wizards 108-98 to take the series lead in game 5. (TOR leads 3-2).
